DAN 116 Jazz Dance Basics I

This course will introduce the student to the fundamental skills and foundational techniques necessary for Jazz Dance. The course provides an emphasis on the basics of jazz dance techniques through movement combinations, body alignment and postural awareness, movement improvisation, physical expression, and creativity. The course is suggested for majors in Musical Theatre who do not yet have the foundational skills/techniques to be successful in our current Jazz Dance course offerings.

The course may be repeated once for academic credit.

Prerequisite

Students should have completed a dance placement exam to establish eligibility, or student should receive authorization from the Director of the Dance Program to enroll in the course.
