Dress and Hygiene
The Work College Program supports departments in establishing dress requirements appropriate to the work performed. Some positions may require safety protection (such as hard hats, safety shoes, chaps, or goggles), hygiene materials (such as gloves or hairnets), or other work-specific items. Departments are responsible for helping cover the cost of required attire when a uniform, or uniform style of dress, is required, or when safety protection or hygiene materials are mandatory. Supervisors may contact the Work College Program Office for funding assistance to help cover these costs.
Departments that regularly interact with the public may set reasonable appearance standards. These should be communicated to first-year students during position orientation, and to returning students during the interview and hiring process. To avoid misunderstandings, supervisors are encouraged to review these standards with all students at the start of each term.
All students are expected to maintain a basic standard of hygiene and cleanliness, regardless of position or department.
