Advising

Challenges encountered in academic and laboratory courses may also appear during fieldwork; support is available to help students successfully navigate these challenges. Students are advised to seek support from their academic advisors, the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (AFWC), or the Clinical Education Placement & Systems Associate (CEPSA) regarding any concerns that may impact their fieldwork participation.

The AFWC, with the support of the CEPSA will:

  • Orient students to the OTD fieldwork program policies and procedures
  • Organize and update D2L OT Level II Fieldwork Program and Resources and individual fieldwork course sites
  • Schedule and conduct information sessions about planning for fieldwork
  • Instruct fieldwork courses in the curriculum
  • Advise students about available fieldwork education sites and assist in planning their fieldwork education experiences across the curriculum
  • Make all final decisions regarding matching and assigning students to fieldwork education facilities for specific fieldwork courses
  • Monitor each student’s fieldwork placements across the curriculum assuring variety and depth of

    fieldwork exposure

  • Monitor student’s performance in the fieldwork setting, providing counseling and arranging remedial

    fieldwork experiences as needed

  • Provide resources for students and fieldwork site educators.

Any matters that may impact a student’s ability to participate fully in a fieldwork education experience should be brought to the attention of the AFWC in advance of the start

of the fieldwork experience. If the fieldwork experience is in progress, the student should notify the AFWC and CEPSA immediately of any change or potential change in status.
