Student and Faculty Speaker Eligibility and Guidelines
The below guidelines are for choosing student and faculty speakers and developing speeches/presentations for School of Nursing events.
Student Speakers:
- Class or cohort elects the student speaker
- Program Director/Program Coordinator provides the elected student with a time limit for the speech and the following guidelines
- Be inspirational
- Be positive
- Use humor
- Be appropriate to a non-nursing audience
The elected student must submit a written presentation to the Program Director at least two weeks before the event. The Program Director reviews content and length for appropriateness to the event and audience.
Faculty Speakers:
- Program Director or Coordinator provides a list of eligible faculty to student representatives.
- Faculty are eligible if they set a good example for students and have not spoken at a student event for the previous two academic years. For example, if a faculty speaks in spring 2017, they are eligible to speak again in spring 2019.
- Students vote for the faculty speaker from among those eligible on presented list.
- Program Director or Coordinator provides the faculty member with a time limit for the speech and the following guidelines
- Be inspirational
- Be positive regarding the IHP, SON and the profession
- Use humor
- Make sure the speech is appropriate to a non-nursing audience.
