Career Preparation
Career development is a thread that runs through a student's entire four years at Berea, not something to think about only as graduation nears. The Office of Internships and Career Development (ICD) supports students in choosing a major and exploring careers, finding opportunities and employers, planning for graduate school, creating resumes and cover letters, networking, interviewing, and evaluating job offers. Resources and appointments are available through BeyondBerea.org.
Internships are a key part of this experience: a student can find or create an internship, receive academic credit, and request funding to make it possible, with support from the Internship Office throughout the process.
Within the Work College Program, a Digital Badging and Career Readiness Manager works alongside students, supervisors, and ICD to help students visually represent the skills they are building through their work-learning experience and articulate what they are learning in a way that translates clearly to employers and graduate programs. This role exists to bridge the Work College Program and ICD, since supporting a student's career readiness is a partnership shared by students, supervisors, and both teams.
Students are encouraged to schedule an appointment with ICD, participate in ICD events throughout the year, and use Handshake to search and apply for internships, jobs, and other opportunities. Supervisors also play a role in this partnership by helping students recognize and articulate the skills they are developing through their day-to-day work.
