NUR 355 Pediatric Nursing
Prerequisites: NUR 301 and NUR 351 with a C or better.
Guided by the AACN Essentials (2021), this course focuses on the nursing care of infants, children, and adolescents within the context of their families, emphasizing principles of growth and development and common pediatric health alterations. Students develop competency in person-
centered, evidence-based pediatric care in acute and community settings. Students apply clinical judgment, safety principles, and family-
centered communication strategies to promote health and support recovery. Social determinants of health (SDOH), cultural influences, and health equity considerations are integrated into pediatric care planning. Clinical experiences include direct patient care, simulation, and interprofessional
collaboration to strengthen skills in assessment, intervention, family education, and advocacy. This course meets the KBN requirements for Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma education.
