10.3 Request for Extension

Students may request an extension of his/her program by petitioning the CSD faculty.  Students should develop a course of study with their Academic Advisor who will then follow the petition procedure as outlined in section 9.1 of this Manual.  A majority vote by the faculty is required for extension approval.  The Academic Advisor will provide written communication regarding the request within one week of the vote and a copy of this written communication will be placed in the student’s academic file.

Extended Program of Study.

An extended program of study is a modification of the course sequence that exceeds the standard timeframe for the program. Students experiencing personal circumstances that prevent them from completing the majority of one or more courses within a semester may request an extended program of study. This option is appropriate for circumstances arising after the withdrawal deadline for the semester and with more than 4 weeks remaining in the semester.  The student must work with the Program Director the Academic Advisor and the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS) to determine eligibility for a program extension.  A leave of absence may be required until such time that the student’s personal circumstances have been resolved. Please see the leave of absence policy in the IHP Catalog.
Students beginning a leave of absence during a semester must retake the course(s) from the beginning of the semester when they are next regularly offered.  Additional costs associated with the extended program, including tuition, are the responsibility of the student. The Speech Language Pathology Master must be completed within 5 years (60 months) from the start of the program.
