CFS 279 The Helping Professions

Individuals and families seek assistance from the helping professions to work through interpersonal conflicts and crises and lead happier, healthier, and more fulfilling lives. Students feel called to serve for various reasons and benefit from learning how practitioners successfully enter specific fields. This course asks students to examine preconceived notions of social work and attitudes toward helping vulnerable populations. Through a simulated group supervision experience, students learn theoretical frameworks, practice generalist skills, apply ethical principles, and mitigate the risk of professional burnout.
