CFS 317 Family-Child-Profsnl Interactn

Prerequisite: GSTR 210 and sophomore standing or above or permission of instructor

This course will take a family perspective to explore how to support the parent-child relationship across the lifespan. The course will examine the nature of adult-child relationships and interaction in the family and theories of parenting and parenting roles. Major components of the course will include: cultural, social, and family diversity; the development of family resources; family services; adult and child learning principles; and historical and contemporary parenting in the United States. Students will be introduced to a variety of parenting-education programs and learn strategies for working with parents and topics of interest to parents. A special emphasis will be on researching, reviewing, critiquing, and translating the current scholarly literature into resources for families, as well as educating those who will work with parents in a professional capacity.
