Continuation in the Honors Program

Participation in the program is voluntary. Students must demonstrate normal progress in fulfilling program requirements and have at least a 3.25 GPA by the end of their first semester and a 3.50 thereafter, or by permission of the director.

Students must earn 100 ACE points in Academics, Community Service, and Engagement each year. Each activity is worth 10 points unless otherwise specified. The breakdown of these points must include 40 in academics, 20 in engagement, and 40 in either community service, engagement, academics, or a combination of the three. 

ACADEMICS: Students must earn a minimum of 40 Academic points by attending a minimum of 4 symposia per academic year. Two (2) of these symposia must be attended in person while the other two (2) can be viewed online asynchronously through the links provided by the Honors program. If a student watches a symposium online, they must score 80% or higher on the embedded quiz to receive credit for that symposium. Additional points may be earned by: presenting at conferences, writing a thesis, publishing articles, or receiving a research grant.

COMMUNITY SERVICE: Students are not required to earn Community Service points, though they are encouraged to do so. They can elect to complete their final 40 points per year in community service or engagement or a combination of both by attending Honors volunteer opportunities or by volunteering with PEACE.

ENGAGEMENT: Students must earn a minimum of 20 Engagement points by attending at least 2 Honors events per academic year. Other points can be earned by attending Honors excursions; on-campus Honors social events and activities; serving as an HON 100 mentor; or serving in an Honors leadership role on the Honors Executive Council.
