ISM 4320 Applications in Information Security
In this course, students explore the tools and techniques used to defend modern networks, systems, and applications against cyber threats. Students gain hands-on experience with firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, endpoint protection, and web-filtering technologies, while also learning to conduct vulnerability assessments using current open-source tools. Topics include reconnaissance and OSINT, system and service enumeration, malware defense, web and wireless attack vectors, cryptographic security, and cloud and IoT considerations. Through practical labs and real-world scenarios, students develop the skills needed to identify weaknesses, mitigate risks, and strengthen organizational security posture.
