CJK 0026 Interactions in a Diverse Community (N)
This course provides students with instruction in recognizing and responding to the signs and symptoms of many disabilities and identifying the most appropriate intervention. The course covers potential issues and available resources for veterans in crisis, people with signs of mental illness, how to use the Baker Act, dealing with persons threatening suicide and providing services to stabilize the situation, the challenges of interacting with juveniles and calls involving juveniles, substance abuse and the use of the Marchman Act, age-related conditions and referral intervention for the elderly, the prevalence of homelessness, and related crimes by and against the homeless, responding and intervening safely and professionally during a crisis, and understanding the options available to provide the most appropriate intervention.
