This course explains the foundation of the United States legal system and the various sources of laws, the difference between a criminal and a non-criminal act, the levels of legal justification and the corresponding legal action to take in the situation, the constitutional requirements for a valid search and seizure, the authority to make an arrest and the circumstances for making an arrest with our without a warrant, the legal basis for using force in specific situations, the ability to identify the role of each person involved in an incident and the significance of intent in determining whether an act is criminal, and the statutory elements of common crimes.
