SOC 201 Sexualty Everyday Life CFS,WGS

Prerequisite: GSTR 210 and one of the following: CFS 130, HLT 111, SOC
100, WGS 124

Students will learn about the development of sexual orientation and gender identity and familial and social influences on their expression throughout the life span. This interdisciplinary survey course balances concepts and theories with first-person narratives from minoritized communities navigating contemporary challenges. Topics covered include sexual development, identity formation, coming out, intimate relations, normative and alternative sexual practices, and queer family formation. Students will interrogate preconceived notions of human sexuality and learn best practices for pursuing healthy relationships.
