PHY 321 Modern Physics II

Prerequisite: PHY 320; OR permission of instructor
Offered: Typically alternate Fall semesters.

A continuation of PHY 320 Modern Physics. An introduction to applications and advanced topics in modern physics. Basic principles of quantum mechanics and relativity will be applied to the study of atomic and subatomic physics. Topics may include atomic and molecular spectra, quantum statistics, lasers, electrical conductivity, superconductivity, magnetism, nuclear models and reactions, radioactivity, elementary particles, and cosmology. Four hours of lectures each week. Noncredit for students who completed it as PHY 386 (Fall 2012).
