NUR 110 Certified Nurse Aide Prep.

This prerequisite course provides an introduction to health care and the provision of hands-on nursing care for older adults. The student will learn the knowledge, and skills of the certified nursing assistant. This includes: bathing, personal care, assistance in eating, assisting persons to move and turn, interpersonal and communication skills, safety, body mechanics, measuring vital signs, and other skills required of nursing assistants or aides. The successful student will be prepared to take the Kentucky Nurse Aide certification exam. This course is appropriate for any student interested in nursing or other allied health professions. Influenza vaccination (available each Fall), TB assessment and testing (2 step Mantoux skin test or Quantiferon Gold Blood Test if student had the BCG Vaccination or a positive skin test), BLS Healthcare Provider (CPR & AED) two year certification, Hepatitis B blood titer (repeat series if non-immune), and negative background check. Students failing to meet these requirements will not be allowed to complete the clinical requirements which will result in a failing course grade.

NUR 110 is a prerequisite for NUR 225 and all other subsequent NUR courses. It may be waived if students provide validation of a current unencumbered state nurse aide certification or completion of a comparable nursing assistant course. 59 didactic hours and 16 clinical hours.
