GEO 201 Travel Experiences in Geology
Prerequisites: GSTR 110 (or waiver).
A travel-based study of regional geology. Each iteration of the course involves travel to a specific location, combined with intensive study of the location’s geology. Students will develop field trip guides prior to the travel portion of the course, be responsible for presenting their guidebook content during the course, and create a final project upon returning home. The course focuses not only on geology, but also the ways in which geology relates to modern society. For instance, environmental challenges such as water usage, economic and sustainability issues related mining and other resource extraction, and natural hazards such as volcanoes and earthquakes will be discussed. Non-credit for students who completed the course as GEO 290: Igneous Geology of California.
