HHP 262 Exercise & Sport Nutrition
The purpose of this course is to examine the nutritional parameters of athletic performance including intervention planning, energy production, the macro nutrients, vitamins and minerals, principles of balanced diets, timing and composition of intakes, hydration, weight management strategies, and nutritional needs for special situations. The course will also examine current trends in nutritional research, as well as the myths, fads, and falsehoods that have permeated the discussion of performance-based nutrition. When possible, we will separate fact from fiction in a field permeated by fiction. Daily assignments will include reading research articles, marketing/advertising media, and viewing audio/visual materials. Student assignments will include reading and writing of a scholarly nature, as well as the critical evaluation of complex scientific theories and procedures.
