5.6 Artificial Intelligence Utilization Policy
Generative Artificial intelligence (AI) is a powerful tool for completing tasks and communicating efficiently, its presence in healthcare will undoubtedly evolve in the coming years. Given this, it is essential for students to become familiar with the different AI tools at their disposal while simultaneously being aware of the appropriate and ethical uses of them.
AI has variable purposes in education and, at times, may interfere with students’ ability to demonstrate their independent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Students are responsible for knowing if and how AI may be used within a course and expected to communicate with course faculty prior to using AI should any clarification be necessary.
Online prerequisite students are encouraged to:
- Be mindful that different course and different assignments may have variable AI policies.
- Take full responsibility for any work submitted that is generated by AI, including checking for accuracy and proper use of citations.
- Be mindful of the need to safeguard confidentiality of patients, students, staff, and faculty when interfacing with AI technologies.
Students suspected of inappropriately using unauthorized aids such as AI language models / content creators will be referred to the Online Prerequisites Academic Integrity Policy.
