3.1 Program of Study
Content is divided across five areas in which to focus course-based learning. The program is a 36-credit curriculum for learners with experience in health settings who wish to develop advanced leadership and management skills. Learners will engage in five key areas of study:
- Analytical Skills and Knowledge.
- Management Functions and Skills for Healthcare Leaders.
- Leadership and Professionalism.
- Health Systems and the Community.
- Innovation.
Additional credits may be added for learners without experience working in health organizations. In addition to synchronous and asynchronous courses, two learning “immersions” utilizing simulation will be held annually. For entering learners, the first immersion focuses on core leadership skills and the second on innovation. These two content streams (leadership skills and innovation) are also embedded in the courses throughout the curriculum, with the two immersion experiences providing intensive application and feedback experiences. Using our strong network of mentors and colleagues, learners will have the opportunity to participate in observations and real-world healthcare experiences, in addition to peer coaching.
