HIS 251 Native Nations & North America
This course explores the history of Indigenous peoples across North America, from the arrival of humans on this continent to the present day. We will explore how scholars approach the challenges of Indigenous history, studying their methodological approaches and how they hone the craft of historical writing. And together, we will make our own contributions to this scholarship by researching, writing, and presenting a project exploring the Native pasts of a specific place. This course offers an opportunity to learn how settler colonialism has shaped the production of historical knowledge, and to discover the diversity, complexity, and resilience of Native Nations past, present, and future.
